Prologue from Mountain Tails
“Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” (Nobel Prize winning author Anatole France (1844-1924).
Animals are a true gift of love to us. They teach us the meaning of unconditional love, living in the moment and living simply. My own pets mean the world to me and fill me with immeasurable joy. They make me happy when I’m down, smile when I want to cry or remain steady when silence is needed. For pet lovers, it is heartbreaking to witness the number of pets who don’t have a “forever home.” Usually, this is through no fault of their own, and these pets spend their days in shelters, waiting and hoping for someone upon whom they can bestow their love.
The Steamboat Springs animal shelter, managed by the Routt County Humane Society (RCHS) does a phenomenal job with the animals that come through their care, providing love, attention, veterinary care and promotion to help place each animal in a forever home. Knowing how much vibrant positive energy our pets bring into our home, I wanted to bring this book to life and give pets who are lucky to have found their families an opportunity to give back, tell their stories and give a voice to those pets who are still searching. As such, the idea behind this book was to have pets in forever homes (some of who came from the shelter themselves) tell the stories of their daily lives and their life philosophies, and offer advice to both pets going into a new home and families who are bringing a new pet into their home.
It is my hope that through the eyes, wisdom and love of our pets, this book will generate a substantial profit to help RCHS make life better for animals awaiting their forever homes. A portion of the proceeds of this book will go to RCHS to offset new expenses and improvements at the Steamboat Springs shelter. Regardless of whether you live in the Yampa Valley, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Houston or Atlanta, the unique words of wisdom and stories from these pets will make you smile, laugh and cry.
In addition to this book, I invite you to visit my blog, deartaffy.com, and fill out a questionnaire for your pet or submit a question and see what other pets have to say about life, love, food and the value of napping. Thank you for your purchase of this book and your support of RCHS.Buy this book
